  • We average 216 residents in the shelter each night at The Ottawa Mission.

The Ottawa Mission Medical/Dental clinic:

The Ottawa Mission dental clinic opened in 2007 thanks to the vision of Dr.Tom Harle and a $60,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Ottawa. Its’ mandate is to provide dental services to those living in a homeless shelter or on the street. In its first year, the Dental Clinic saw just over 1,000 patients, an average of 105 patients a month.

Several Ottawa Dentists volunteer their time every month for a total of 93 volunteer hours a month by dentists, 120 volunteer hours for dental assistants, and 12 volunteer hours for dental hygienists. The Dental services donated have a dollar value of $20,000. Lab services donated have a dollar value of $3,587.

The Ottawa Mission Walk-in Medical Clinic opened in 2007 as well. There are 2 nurse practitioners that man the clinic, one full-time and one part-time. As well, a Doctor from Inner Cities Health is at the clinic a day and a half a week. The Medical clinic now sees an average of 380 patients a month and in 2007, 2550 patients received treatment.


Client Services

Stepping Stones Learning Centre opened in December 2006

Employs one full time teacher and uses volunteers in the computer lab. Helped 14 clients take the GED test in 2007 and 12 other clients completed online courses through Stepping Stones. 2 people attended Algonquin College thanks to an Ottawa Mission bursary.

Thanks to help from housing support workers at The Ottawa Mission, 330 clients were moved into permanent housing in 2007. Also, a total of 183 people gained employment thanks to help from our committed employment workers.

According to statistics from the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa, roughly 9,000 people were homeless and stayed in a shelter at some point in 2006. That would represent an increase of 1.8% over 2005 numbers.
