Our History

In 1906, a group of Christian business leaders saw the plight of the homeless men who slept in the streets of Canada’s new capital city and founded The Ottawa Mission. They led the way in creating a shelter that would grow to become The Ottawa Mission of today.

To commemorate one hundred years of service to the homeless and the lost in our community, The Ottawa Mission produced a centennial book entitled Beyond These Walls. This book, through evocative stories and pictures, presents the work of The Ottawa Mission and the changing face of homelessness over the past one hundred years.
